粽子 Zongzi - Chinese Rice Dumpling. Zong4 Zi3 is also a typical southern food, originated from ancient 楚国 Chu3 Guo2, the kingdom of Chu during the Warring States period(BC 278), today 湖北 Hubei province, to memorize 杜甫 Du4 Fu3, a well-known ancient poet, thinker and a patriot who jumped into the river to kill himself. The Dragon Boat holiday is therefore created, called 端午节 "Duan1 Wu3 Jie2" festival on the 5th of 5th month of Chinese lunar year. 粽子 is traditionally eaten during such festival with boiled eggs dyed in red skin, especially prepared for children. There is variety of 粽子 in shapes and stuffing in regions and cities however everywhere mainly uses sweet sticky rice as major ingredient and bamboo's leaves as wrapping skin. The southeastern Asians like Laotians, Thais, Cambodians, and Vietnamese (bánh tro in Vietnamese language) also have similar traditional dishes influenced by Chinese Zongzi. 粽子 is one of my favor too.
