Methodology & Result-Oriented

As a Chinese tutor in Standard Mandarin, authentic Tu Tong Hua, I strictly stick with proprietary methodologies and result-oriented rules, by applying modern, practical and innovative methods, which result in creative, effective and quality instructions.

Teaching a language can be a tricky propositon. Getting students to relax and check their inhibitions at the door is easier said than done. Students may be reluctant to speak in the target language fearing that their accent might be off.

So, how does an instructor encourage good speaking and listening skills when teaching a language? The answer is elementary! Think back to when you were a child and the learning techniques employed to assist you in learning a new skill. Pick one or two of these helpful techniques to spice up your classroom learning.

Here are a few tips:

  • Play games. Practice listening to rules and explanations in target language.
  • Use lively visual aids: materials should utilize the senses (sight, sound, touch, taste and smell).
  • Dramatize teaching with accompanying gestures, facial expression and voice inflections.
  • Speak in the target language as much as possible and avoid translation.
  • Use tape recorder to tape students for playback.
  • Devise team games - friendly competition.
  • Role play; let students be the teacher.
  • Show and tell (have students bring an item from home to discuss with simple vocabulary).
