In China, in holiday seasons, particular in the south, the dinner is just a start now or a bit earlier - a late dinner, around family, or in the restaurant. You will see many people so enjoy the late dinner in the restaurant by the street, from daylight by sun to evening light by electricity. People there can eat to midnight till 2 or 3 am, or even overnight. The night life is really exciting there. Therefore I would recommend you travel to the south if you plan going to China, especially stay a few days more in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong (old name Canton), or/and Hong Kong to pamper yourself for mouth and stomach. In this Washington metropolitan area, a place in Wilson Blvd of Arlington, VA from Hong Kong also opens till 2am, you might be able to try authentic Cantonese food there.
