饺子 Chinese Dumpling = Italian Pizza Culture 意大利皮萨饼文化

Chinese dumpling 饺子 jiao3 zi5 has long long history and certain rich culture (please referring to my previous post of "the Culture of Chinese Dumpling). The dumpling is a typical northern Chinese food, normally cooked by two ways: boiled/steamed or fried. The south generally makes smaller one called 馄炖 hun2 dun4, boiled in soup together to eat.

Other Asian countries also make similar types of Chinese dumpling. However not sure if anyone has noticed, at least I've paid attention (maybe my another copyright - joke again) that other major two countries next to China, like Korea and Japan's dumplings are just can't stand up like Chinese'. That's the trick of Chinese dumpling making. Chinese people normally judge if you can make dumpling by observing and telling you if your dumpling can stand up. Also Chinese dumpling is traditionally very full and rich in variety of fillings, looks like a plump lady. I believe everyone has noticed the latter.

I consider Chinese dumpling is similar to 皮萨饼 Italian Pizza and its culture, a mass market food. Since it's delicious and healthier than Pizza, also easy to carry by a paper or plastic container, some Western sports organizers even only serve the dumplings to the large games of their sports teams and audiences.

Weekend is coming, so enjoy yourself! Either try to make dumplings yourself like pictures above (very easy), or go to a nice Chinese restaurant nearby. (* my on-line dictionary is unable to show the correct radical of 炖)
